Nutcracker Season is upon us

Russian Corps (2009)
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  Yesterday, MR noticed on our afternoon trip to ArtsPlace that the city of Lexington has already started decorating for Christmas with garlands around the light posts (and yet a banner is still up with Autumn leaves on the same post).  Her comment, "that's just wrong." And, yet Nutcracker Season is in full gear with a Tschaikovsky accompaniment to breakfast and a daily watching of Flowers, Snow and the Party Scene from a previous year DVD.  Soon, very soon, I suspect it will take a full frontal lobotomy to eradicate the ever-playing Waltz of the Flowers out of the interior of my brain.

Backstage at the 2008...Oh the glamour!

Aaaahhhh...I love it.

Yesterday, the Lexington Ballet staff offered a free ticket to the Nutcracker if you could post 10 Nutcracker posters in "verifiable" locations around town.  It makes me want to give Peddie's little "heheheheh" laugh.  I'm thinking that we could have a really good time putting posters up around town AND taking pictures to "verify."

Reverse Scavenger Hunt + iPhone Camera = Fun Time + Free Ticket to Nutcracker.

  2. Sure Isabug, but I'll need to deliver them to you. Why don't we meet at Magnolia Bakery and then head down to see my peeps in Soho...

Oh...and this year MR will alternate as Snow and a Flower and will be a Party Girl in every production. She should be Snow for your performance -- it has a real tutu! And, the Party Girls are on pointe (and should more accurately be called Party Young Women).

  3. Hehe... party girls sounds kind of silly too... makes me think of margaritas ;)

Also, sounds like she's got a LOT going on this year! Woo Mr.M! Are they still giving the leads to non-lex people this year?

  4. Like last year, the principal roles are being filled by Ithe professional company members. They have great dancers so they aren't importing from other ballets.

Half of MR's level were party girls the year she was a party boy but this year they'll all be girls! It's a bit of a step down in their minds but they get to do it on pointe and wear fake hair pieces. Snow's a great role but she won't be in the second act the performance that y'all go to as she won't be a flower (that was the green and pink dress last year) that night. One of her BFFs will be Marie that night. Everybody is really excited for her. She's a lovely performer!

Ahhh...Nutcracker (as we like to call it in the business).

  5. Really? The girls are a step down from playing a boy? Huh... I'm also trying to think of snow, but it sounds really magical anyway. We'll, of course, love her whatever she does and KNOW she'll do a great job. Are the company members from Lexington?

  6. Oh, I see what you mean Peddie...they see Party Girl as a step down from being something like Russian Corps or Spanish Corps. They were all Party Girls three years ago. The dance is pretty cute though and it's lots of acting, too1

The professional company of Lexington Ballet is from all over but they live in Lexington now.

  7. Ahhh, ok - now I understand ;) Atleast the pros are from Lexington then too... I'm still REALLY excited (though I had hoped, as I'm sure you guys did even more, that she would one day be one of those lead girls). I do love the party scene though, and it's true - they have to do acting there as well which is fun ;)

Sigh.. I remember my days as a little cook each time...

  9. PS: (I'm on an MR kick lately... ) I love MR with her length hair, but I'm pretty sure she could rock a short cut too (which also reminds me of myself as a little ballerina)... and I think our little Hermione is so cute. She really doesn't seem like she tries to dress up as something she's not - granted, most people* could not wear what she wears and look that great - but she just looks so lovely!

  10. I love that picture of Emma Watson. She's so cute and I think you're right that MR could rock any hair cut (like Isabug and Olivia too). It's those big eyes they have!!

  11. The big eyes! They can be used for good ;)

    heehee... I tease, I tease!

  12. I also do not think I can pull of the super short hair... it will bring too much attention to my lack of neck. Olivia and MR... go ahead and rock it!

  13. Did you win the Scavenger Hunt? I want to see pictures!!

Also, are you going to get the award for most tickets from people who live far away this year?
